Consequences for the medtech industry

The Climate and Innovation Act (CIA) and the corresponding ordinance came into force at the beginning of January 2025. The law requires all Swiss companies to reduce their direct (Scope 1) and indirect (Scope 2) emissions to net zero by 2050. To this end, the federal government is providing a total of CHF 1.2 billion in financial aid for innovative measures over six years.

Funding applications must be accompanied by a net-zero roadmap. This includes a carbon footprint, a reduction target and a specific action plan that enables the company or industry to plan decarbonisation and reduce emissions to net zero by 2050 at the latest.

Swiss Medtech has developed such a net-zero roadmap for manufacturing SMEs in the industry. Larger companies or those not covered by the industry roadmap can find more information on the website of the Swiss Federal Office of Energy:
